Christiansfeld is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its unique urban planning and architectural beauty. The city was founded by the Brethren and represents ideals of equality and community.
Already at first glance you can see that Christiansfeld town center is something special. Houses and roads are completely symmetrical and laid out according to a carefully planned town plan.
As one of Denmark's World Heritage Sites, Christiansfeld is a unique cultural experience.
Visit Søstrehuset, where Museum Kolding tells the story of Christiansfeld and the Brethren.
Set aside time to experience the city, perhaps with one of Museum Kolding's skilled guides.
In Søstrehuset, where Museum Kolding is located, you can easily be tempted by the fine goods in the museum shop. The bestseller is the Herrnhut star – the beautiful Advent star that lights up many windows in Christiansfeld during the dark months. You can also buy fine pearl jewellery, felt flowers, books, posters and much more.
World Heritage:
We encourage all visitors to take care of the World Heritage Site. In order to reduce wear and tear on the city's surfaces and pavements, heavy traffic in the historic city center is prohibited. In addition, all visitors are encouraged to show respect and consideration for the local population and the town's buildings and plantings.
Parking and accessibility:
Parking is free throughout Christiansfeld. Bus driving and bus parking are not permitted in the UNESCO area. Buses are referred to Lindegade 53
Handicap access:
Everywhere in Christiansfeld there are level differences and cobblestones. Via the west gable in Søstrehuset there is access via a ramp and access to a lift, from which the entire house can be accessed.
ATTENTION! The door opens outwards.
Toilet:
There are public toilets in the city, i.a. in the old Spray House on Kirkepladsen, at the large car park on Lindegade and at the bus station at Genforeningspladsen. You are also welcome to use the toilets in Søstrehuset, where there is a changing area in the disabled toilet on the ground floor.
Dogs:
It is not allowed to bring your dog into Søstrehuset. There are several green areas where it is possible to run your dog. Remember to pick up after your dog.
