In the heart of Kolding lies Staldgården. The history of Staldgården dates back as far as the castle Koldinghus. The walls of Staldgården hold stories of kings and queens, of regiments and horses, but they also contain the grim tale of the occupation of Kolding.
Museum Kolding invites you to a special experience about World War II at Staldgården. Here, you can enter Denmark's only preserved Gestapo cell, Zelle II. This is the cell where members of the resistance movement waited to be interrogated by the Gestapo. Interrogations that were often particularly brutal. In the cell, the inmates had carved their names into the walls.
In Zelle II, you can watch three different cinematic stories that recount the history of Kolding and the fates of those who passed through Staldgården, which was then called the "Forecourt of Hell."
The exhibition "1943 – Gestapo Comes," which is a continuation of Zelle II, contains objects and personal stories from the years of occupation when the Gestapo had their regional headquarters at Staldgården in Kolding.
